Does anyone know if there are any groups planning on cracking ReCord? I really want to get my hands on it before I decide to make it a purchase. I should have just done the beta when they offered it to me lol :^)

You should try to become a beta tester. Its a decent program I have to admit but as far as buying it I would have to disagree. I beta tested it myself and here's one important thing : NO VSTi Support !!!!!!! Your stuck with using Reason for productions with virtual instruments, No respected Mixing or recording Engineer would use Record to Track Dick.

I'd have to say for that one simple Reason that Record sux, plain and simple. You might as well become a Protools Fool. Buy Cubase PC/MAC or Logic if your on MAC.

I did the beta testing, believe me, you're not missing anything. I love Reason, even with all its shortcomings, but Record is worthless.

I want to try it out too, but record seems like a half-assed hackjob. They should have just added audio capability to reason. The fact they didn't add audio to reason says to me that the code is spaghetti or that it was impossible to fit audio screens into their clenched anus GUI design. The dongle that comes with record is why we haven't seen a warez release yet. There will be a release soon enough, I'm sure. I can wait, it's not like this app is a must have. Hell, the only thing I use reason for is to access some RFL sample libs. But even there, that rewire stuff sucks balls and crashes too often. Like kally123 said, without VSTi support they're not a real option in the sequencer game. Sonar, cubase and reaper are the only real choices.

If you have Reason, Record is great, the mixer is exceptional, the line6 stuff is good, the timestretching is the best on the market and the ability to record audio is nice for Reason users. If it had been released as Reason 4.5, everyone would be saying how amazing it is. The lack of vst support keeps it stable, and you can run lots of tracks and fx even on my 4 year old laptop. One thing I would say though is ideally you would use it with 2 screens, it can be a bit annoying to go between the mixer, rack and sequencer all the time

I bought it, I had Reason 2.5 licenses and got Reason 4 + Record licenses for only 149$, great price for a big upgrade !

Ok it doesnt support VSTi, but I think the whole Record concept is amazing : it's like having a super-Reason with SLL mixer and audio tracks without being CPU intensive.

Also remember that you can link it with any host via Rewire ...

Go for it !

The dongle will be probably hard to defeat as far as it syncs itself to your own account on their website to activate the products (both Reason and Record need activation BTW, so if you have an illegal Reason 4 license it will not be usable within Record)

I also have to agree. If you can't play Symphobia or Superior Drummer inside of it, it's wasting time. Sure it sounds great, the stretch engine is great, but come on I can't mix my songs in this exclusively.

I did not download the beta but I downloaded the demo as soon as they released it And the only limitation the demo has is that you can not open your work file. I must say I'm slightly disapointed not only because they decided to Dongle it but the way it is layd out where you really need three screens. I mean if you want to record audio you might as well use Reason with rewire Sonar or any other good audio studio. I think that they should of just added audio recording capability to Reason 4 and called it Reason 5. I like the way Reason is laid out.

I believe the reason to work in Record (no pun intended) will be BECAUSE of the fact it doesn't load other plugins, and as a result, forces you to use the Reason toolkit. There's an awful lot of interesting sound design potential, things you can do in Reason that can't be done in normal DAW environments, because there are no 3rd party plugins. If you're not using the wires on the back to do interesting things, then I think you're missing the point. In other DAWs, plugins cannot interact with each other like you can do in Reason. Wake me up when a new plugin standard is introduced allowing arbitrary ins and outs, including both audio and CV signals, and then we'll see if any 3rd party vendors even bother. How long did we have to wait for Waves to add side chaining support to their AU plugs? Hell, AU still doesn't support MIDI Out right? So I think that's what Record is all about--letting you be creative without having to worry about this kind of technical BS.

Reason and Record cop a lot of hate from internet producers in forums etc.

The first music production tool I used was Reason. When I was studying at the SAE institute they taught Reason, Pro Tools and Ableton Live in that order. The teacher chose Reason to teach us first because it resembles hardware and has all the basic tools included. Learning how a compressor works or about subtractive synthesis was easy and you can apply that knowledge to any compressor or synth.

Playing around with the routing can produce some awesome sounds with a little creativity. It's also a good visual way to learn about inputs/outputs, chaining etc. I love the way it's laid out and I can quickly come up with ideas and have a song going in no time.

Using rewire I can hook reason up to cubase and use VSTs as much as I like. It takes like 10 seconds to setup reason rewired to cubase.

Reason isn't supposed to be a complete DAW. Think of it as a big rack of gear with a good sequencer. Comparing Reason to Pro Tools or any other DAW is foolish.

Most professional audio producers, musicians wouldn't disregard Reason/Record- they know you can have the best software in the world and make complete crap, you can also make amazing music with tools that seem to be lacking at first glance. I haven't worked with many pros but the ones I have wouldn't call a program worthless. (especially reason)

(to each their own, I just get fed up with the constant bashing reason/record get for the simple fact that they don't support VSTs)

1 - I believe linux does this
2 - who gives a fuck about something that I won't even use. in fact I doubt I use even 25% of the features in any DAW, but VST is one feature I use 100% of the time. what's the point of bringing up a feature that less than 1% of people will care about or use. if it was a feature demanded even 5% or 10% of users, EVERY daw would have it, guaranteed. but no DAW has it cos nobody gives a shit about it.

1 - fuck waves, all they do is re-release their tired old shit with a different shade of lipstick on the same old ugly pig that has been outdone by countless other companies now. they had a good rep when they came out only because they were one of the 1st and had no serious competition. now about ten years later, there's even shareware that is better than that lame old garbage. why don't you try some other software, cos damn near everything is better than that old fucking waves shit, cos tons of software has had side chaining for years and years.

I personally agree that Reason is real great and I love it, and if you want VSt's too you can if you rewire it to other Studios. Hell You can even use two or more computers wired together, etc. But I was looking for a product as Record for years to come out. I was so excited thinking finally my dream came true. I thought Reason just needs a serial an Record will too. Stunn no1:Dongle!!!! It sent chill up my spine and it also made me angry for few seconds. When Ive seen the advertisement Video It was great. But when I downloaded the demo. It seemed the layout is crammed and couple if not three monitors are needed or you can get lost in it.
I'm use to Reason,Sonar,Cubase etc. I just wanted to jump in and do it. Well because of the (ILL) layout I don't even care if it gets cracked or not. I'll keep on using Reason.
