Government attempts to knock out file-sharing sites in the battle against music and film piracy could be doomed.
A new file-sharing software called Tribler cannot be knocked out by governments or anti-piracy organisations, its creators claim.
'The only way to take it down is to take the internet down,' says Dr Pouwelse of Delft University of Technology.
Tribler is a variant on the popular BitTorrent file-sharing software, but is designed specifically to stay online under any circumstances - including attacks by governments and anti-piracy organisations.
'Tribler is designed to keep BitTorrent alive, even when all torrent search engines, indexes and trackers are pulled offline,' says file-sharing news site Torrentfreak.
Moves such as the seizure of the Megaupload domain by U.S. authorities would not work against Tribler.

Firefox: DeSopa is the latest Firefox add-on that can counter the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)'s DNS blocking if the bill passes. The extension gets you through sites censored by DNS and lets you browse them by IP address.
To use the extension, you just need to click the DeSopa button to switch to accessing sites by their IP addresses. Click again to go back to standard DNS resolution.

haha, i guess we won't see those "please RS" comments anymore :))
Rapidshare disabled the ability to resume downloads that were stopped for free users and also limited the average download speed to 30 kb/s.
Because of the way they are doing this, it may look like the download is frozen.
Don’t worry – it’s not. It’s just waiting for the next piece of the file to be transferred.
The pauses in between are added by Rapidshare in order to make the overall average speed slower for free-users.

Hi !
I didn't know where to post that, I give a try here, sorry if I should not !
With all that mess with Fileserve/Sonic and everybody else I saw that Usenet is still available and look to keep being stable.
There's a lot of commercial shit over the web saying "Go Usenet" etc... I don't know if it's a trap or not ?
Someone use/used it already ?
In my own case I wanted to download some Futurama season, Usenet is the only one left who got it with French subtitles...
But it SEEMS that there's a lot of stuff regarding software etc we can find on it, right or wrong ?
Thank you :)

Since the 'Internet Revolution" is continuing, You can't use filesonic(now it's dead), but you can use Box.net (although i wouldn't prefer it), 4shared (good), mediafire (better) and uploading (the only not dead file sharing i know about.)
Anyone know any others?

Funny thing, but only now i have realized that the site is practically empty.
we can definitely forget about MU and FileServe; FileSonic might come back in a few days, but still most of the posts and mirrors are dead.
this leads to a good question: wtf do we do now? :o))
i don't want to make a mess with mirrors and other stuff... after all about 20% of posts was dead anyway.
so it seems to me that the best thing to do is to start with a clean sheet.
some stuff will be lost forever, but most of it, i am sure, will be reuploaded in a month or so.
please vote in the poll.
i especially want to read our contributor's opinion.
UPD: unfortunately, i still do not have complete solution to this problem... neither my acquaintance who run much bigger web-sites.
although i can share some news with you...

What does a bill like PIPA/SOPA mean to our shareable world? At the TED offices, Clay Shirky delivers a proper manifesto -- a call to defend our freedom to create, discuss, link and share, rather than passively consume.
Looks like it's on.

as you might notice, we've been on strike against SOPA yesterday. here's the letter i received this morning:
fightforthefuture.org
The internet blackout was nuts, right?
Google launched a petition. Wikipedia voted to shut itself off. Senators' websites went down just from the sheer surge of voters trying to write them. NYC and SF geeks had protests that packed city blocks.
You made history today: nothing like this has ever happened before. Tech companies and users teamed up. The tens of millions of people who make the internet what it is joined together to defend its inherent openness. The network defended itself. Whatever you call it, the bottom line is clear: from today forward, it will be much harder to mess up the internet.
The really crazy part? We might even win. Approaching Monday's crucial Senate vote there are now 35 Senators publicly opposing PIPA. Last week there were 5. And it just takes just 41 solid "no" votes to permanently stall PIPA (and SOPA) in the Senate. What seemed like miles away a few weeks ago is now within reach.
But don't trust predictions. The forces behind SOPA & PIPA (mostly movie companies) can make small changes to these bills until they know they have the votes to pass. Members of Congress know SOPA & PIPA are unpopular, but they don't understand why--so they're easily duped by superficial changes. The Senate returns next week, and the next few days are critical. Here are two things to think about:
1. Plan on calling your Senator every day next week. Pick up the phone each morning and call your Senators' offices, until they vote "no" on cloture. If your site participated today, consider running a "Call the Senate" link next week.
2. Tomorrow, drop in at your Senators' district offices. We don't have a cool map widget to show you the offices nearest you (we're too exhausted! any takers?). So do it the old fashioned way: use Google, or the phonebook to find the address, and just walk in, say you oppose PIPA, and urge the Senator to vote "no" on cloture. These drop-in visits make our spectacular online protests more tangible and credible.
That's it for now. Be proud and stay on it!

The video above discusses the Senate version of the PROTECT IP Act, but the House bill that was introduced TODAY is much much worse.
It'll give the government new powers to block Americans' access websites that corporations don't like. The bill would criminalize posting all sorts of standard web content -- music playing in the background of videos, footage of people dancing, kids playing video games, and posting video of people playing cover songs.
This legislation will stifle free speech and innovation, and even threaten popular web services like Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.
The bill was just introduced: We need to act now to let our lawmakers know just how terrible it is. Will you fill out the form above to ask your lawmakers to oppose the legislation?
UPD: an interesting letter added inside. good read.

Sick and tired of slow FileSonic speed, desperately downloading 50-50 HD-Rip for nearly whole day, i turned to our forum to find a final solution to this crap;
and thanks to members of AudioSEX, there was one.
Since i've tried MyDownloader already and it was slow even with 10 streams peer file, i decided to try the other one - AllDebrid.com
If you having slow speed, or tired of buying tons of accounts to different file sharing services, read on...
UPD: Poll added, post renamed

message from developer, Tracy Collins:
Indiginus is a very small company (myself and my wife) and this is having a huge negative impact on us. Torch sells for only $50 US, a very fair price for such a product. I am myself a composer and musician, and Indiginus was founded at a time when I could not afford to pay $200 for a guitar library, so I created our first product especially for poorer musicians like myself, and we have stayed true to that vision and have just started to believe that our company could be really successful.
At this point, though, I'm thinking that it's just not worth is because of piracy.
Our latest product, Torch, took 5 months to complete, from sampling the guitar to editing the samples to designing the graphics to scripting the features, so you can imagine how it feels to be in our position.
