This set captures a 2008 performance by electronic music pioneer, Klaus Schulze.
Playing at Germany’s “Night of the Prog III” festival, he gives as crackling a performance as can be expected by a then-60-year-old synth master surrounded by enormous stacks of gear on a humongous open-air stage. Add the indefinable, octave-hopping voice of former Dead Can Dance vocalist Lisa Gerrard, and “Rheingold” makes for a strangely enchanting viewing experience.
The duo’s partnership began on 2008’s Farscape CD, and Gerrard adds life to Schulze’s often haunting and hypnotic music. Split screens and intricate angles keep the visuals interesting, and post-production work at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios ensures the optimal delivery of Schulze’s musical vision.
